Commissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Xu Bing has created this original artwork to celebrate The Met’s 150th Anniversary. Art for the People for The Met is a six-color lithograph and relief print that includes two components: Square Word Calligraphy and multiple red “seals” based on the ancient Chinese literati tradition. Upon closer inspection, the seals actually are QR codes that the audience can scan to read further on The Met’s website. The Met acquires the first edition of the print portfolio. It is on view starting September 16, 2021, on the second floor of the Museum in the passageway opposite Galleries 691–693.
